  Welcome to Healthcare Advice Articles

The healthcare advice section is a guide to help you know who to call in what situation and when it's time to take action for sick children.

Cold Treatments

Although your baby can't tell you, a cold will probably make her feel ill for two or three days.

Colic

A significant new trial, conducted at Guy's Hospital and published in the Journal of Nutrition and Dietitics shows that lactose intolerance is a causative factor in infant colic.

Constipation

If your baby dirties his nappy less frequently than usual and his stools are hard, he may be constipated.

Cradle Cap

Cradle cap is a common condition in young babies, in which dry white or yellow scales form a crusty cap on the scalp.

Diarrhoea

If your baby's faeces becomes dark green, very loose and foul-smelling (sometimes with mucus in the nappy too) your baby probably has diarrhoea.

Fever

If your baby has a temperature above 39°C (38.4°C under the arm), call a doctor immediately.

Nappy Rash

Check your baby's nappy frequently and change it as soon as the nappy becomes wet or dirty.

Time To Take Action

Contact your doctor urgently if your baby shows any of the following signs.

Teething

It's only natural that, as a parent, you want to soothe your baby when he's in pain. Teething is a normal part of your baby's development and can't be avoided, so you may want a remedy close at hand.

What are you waiting for?

There is a well-proven link between timelines of treatment and medical outcomes. Putting off a check up or simple treatment when you need it costs more in the long term since the risk of developing a condition grows or its outcome worsens.
