Tummy upsets can make small babies very ill. Because milk creates the ideal breeding conditions for the bacteria, which cause serious tummy problems, it is vital to keep everything spotlessly clean. Bottles, teats, soothers and breast pumps all need to be sterilised thoroughly between each use. There are several easy ways to do this:
Cold Water Method
Items are simply left immersed for half an hour in cold water using either sterilising tablets or solution and then rinsed with recently boiled water.
Microwave Method
Items, which are microwave-safe can be sterilised easily, without the need for chemicals or rinsing and will remain sterile for up to 3 hours if the lid is not removed.
Steam Method
This is an efficient and easy way to sterilise any item that can safely be boiled. No chemicals are needed, so bottles and teats do not have to be rinsed before use. Items will remain sterile in these units for up to 3 hours if the lid is not removed.
